Welcome, friends and followers. Here’s the fashion show for those who like cool clothes and hot colors.
It seemed like we had a mild summer, which ends Sunday.
After all, anytime I can attend the Iowa State Fair in a suit without breaking a sweat is great, isn’t it?

Let’s start with that. I love visiting the Iowa State Fair and wearing eye-catching outfits. I wore the Flamingo Suit (a colorful novelty number with palm trees, seashores and flamingos) on one day. On another, I wore a bright purple suit paired with an orange polka-dot bow tie and pocket square and a yellow shirt.
Lots of compliments. Lots of strangers (and a few friends) asking if they could take my photo.
My daily wear this summer didn’t always involve wearing a suit. I wore shorts and short sleeves most days. Even with casual wear, I usually aimed for colors (bright or subdued) and comfort.

The white suit I purchased earlier this year was fun to wear. It was eye-catching and could be quite flashy when paired with bright colors. Even colors like a soft pink or blue really popped.
While I did splurge on a few items, most people are surprised when they hear that most of my shopping is done with a budget in mind.
Thrift stores like Goodwill, Many Hands, Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul are mainstays. If you can recognize something that fits both your taste and wallet or purse, it’s a score.
I also head to the clearance rack at higher end stores like Dillard’s or Mr. B.
Am I going to wear red, white and blue in July? Of course I am. (Photo by John Naughton.)
Red, white and blue were a popular wardrobe of choice for days like Independence Day and Memorial Day. (Wearing something comfortable and appropriate to the occasion are important.)
The USA shirt shown above is lightweight and ideal for hot summer days. It’s a purchase from years ago when I covered the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Omaha for the Des Moines Register.

What colors are most popular for reactions when I’m out and about? Purple and red are two of them. (Those Red Hat Ladies know something, don’t they?)
But I’ve found while living My Life, In Color, that coordinated or contrasting colors can draw interest, too.
